Welcome

We began day two with a quick community news check-in. Here's the news:
  • I bought a new house!!!
  • I facilitated a meeting with a ninja check-in and circle. It worked and started the meeting off well.
  • My volleyball team advanced to the finals!

Circle

"The circle is ancient and arguably in our DNA." -Tenneson
The circle is a way of listening together and a way of being smarter together. You can learn it in a half hour and you can practice it for a lifetime. It is a slower pace and requires a talking piece.
What we noticed after being in circle:
  • A lot happens in a short time
  • There is something so inviting about the opportunity to speak without interruption
  • Felt strong sense of warmth and connection
  • Definitely different
  • Change of pace
  • Awkward
  • When you know you are going to get a chance to talk, you are less likely to interrupt
  • Group size is a plus
  • The room didn't get that loud
  • People were really honest
  • You can't interrupt
  • The first round felt awkward with the talking piece, but got more comfortable as you go

  • Creating the container for trust
  • Good gauge of what people have energy for NOW
  • Blowing up a topic that goes across every sector (complex/changing environments)
  • The topic could be useful on an annual basis or some other frequency
  • The ability to get beyond the leadership team
  • Breaks down power structures
  • Sideways way to talk about conflict
  • It's great for problems you don't know the answer to

Checking Out: Reflection and Application

Picture

Our final circle was hosted by Robert who said:
"
What resonates with you is the most important thing. There is not right answer to these questions, there just may be a better answer."

The closing questions for reflection were:
  1. What am I still curious about?
  2. It's ok for me to...
  3. What's your one 15% solution?

The final question read aloud to the circle by another participant was, "I am going to practice...?"
